RJ Taking bleak, drone-filled doom and meshing it with heavy, melodic, blasting black metal is no easy task but Mizmor pulls it off. Harrowing, depressive, and melancholic while at the same time showing segments of beautiful atmosphere that are almost hopeful. Overall a very solid listen but it came off a bit tedious at time. I think I prefer Yodh. 7/10 Favorite track: Desert of Absurdity.

Cole “Master ov Crabs” Galando While not as experimental or atmospheric as Yodh, Cairn compensates with tighter and more memorable songwriting, all of it culminating in one of the most emotionally affecting listening experiences I've had this year. A.L.N. is an absolute genius, and I can only hope he maintains this level of creativity and craft for the rest of his career. Favorite track: Cairn to God.

providence_lost Absolutely titanic album. ALN's tortured screams and thundering guitar are the perfect accompaniment to the absurdist struggle, with the speaker coming out the other side victorious over god and death. The recurring acoustic motif of the desert itself is a welcome rest between the massive struggles of the cairns to God and Suicide. Absolutely amazing. Favorite track: The Narrowing Way.

Portland, OR one-man, black/doom force of nature, Mizmor announce their highly anticipated third full-length titled, Cairn, scheduled for release on September 6th via Gilead Media. Pre-order is available now for all formats via @Gilead Media (LP/CD/Digital), Mizmor (cassette). All formats feature stunning new artwork commissioned by Mariusz Lewandowski.

Cairn continues to build upon the foundation of existential exploration and personal suffering wrought by religion, nature, and life itself that the artist's prior two albums laid (S/T - 2012; "Yodh" - 2016). Cairn muses on the absurd premise that is human experience: life is devoid of ultimate meaning and mankind can't help but continually seek meaning in it despite this. Lyrically influenced by the works of Albert Camus, A.L.N. (Mizmor) has created sonic power so big and so full of existential dread, it demands your undivided attention.

Over the four tracks (spanning almost 60 minutes), A.L.N.'s ability to effortlessly intertwine black metal, doom, and drone - all while retaining pummeling emotional power and momentum - proves Mizmor is an unstoppable force than spans across genres of heavy metal.
