Sonny92 Just like the cover, these three lengthy tracks (and a short outro) are gorgeous and menacing. With brilliant songwriting and great execution, this is black metal that has evolved beyond it's early lo-fi, satanic roots into a more nuanced and subtle beast. The songs are atmospheric, although I wouldn't really term this atmo-black, sounding at times desperate, at others majestic. Favorite track: The Serpent Sting, the Smell of Goat.

Steve Sullivan Hard to pick a favourite since album is great from start to finish but A Victual for our Dead Selves is outstanding. Songs are atmospheric and aggressive at the same time. Deserving of inclusion on many 2019 best of lists.

No denying the talent on display here. I prefer the harder songs on this release which sound like a black metal version of Iron Maiden getting accidentally booked to play at the Renaissance Festival. The acoustic passages, however, just kind of sound like you are actually at the Ren Fest... which for many honestly can be a take it or leave it option. bcb723
